Yeah, I just got one, and found out about the starter problems on these.
The last owner put a new starter on, and I added a battery and cables.
I've played with the spring tension on the sprag assembly enough to
where I'm satisfied it won't leave me stranded. It's already been
shimmed, too. Are there any other weak spots or things to look out for
on this bike? And where's a good place to get parts for these? The local
dealer says parts are getting scarce. Thanks.

I had some issues with my starter as well.
I may have an older mechanism because my bike is an 82 920.
I added a couple of shims.
replaced the long screws with threaded rod
put nuts on the end of the threaded rod and tightened them against one
another.
This enabled me to get as much torque on the rods, making the pressure on
the shims greater, and adjustable.
This completely cured all my slippage.
As for the parts of the starter inside the crank case, I haven't touched
those.
I've been lucky enough to avoid getting into the crankcase.
