| Damn tar snakes! | 10 Jun 2008 20:13 GMT | 40 |
Rode in the mountains today and a road I frequently ride is now covered with tar snakes. Not just a couple here and there, but like the oil slick in Thunder Road! They weren't there a couple of weeks ago. If it's a pain for me at the speeds I take it, I can imagine what the ...

| Riding music | 10 Jun 2008 16:51 GMT | 18 |
I like listening to bluegrass when I'm touring; it suits the mood of rolling along. However I happened across some more good riding music, a CD of Jimmie Rodgers,* songs from the early 30's. I don't hear modern stuff like this, it's really amazing. He sings in various styles -

| Fuel Economy? | 10 Jun 2008 00:17 GMT | 15 |
Is a 600cc or better, motorcycle really more economical than say, a Prius? Or a gasoline powered car that gets 35+ MPG? Think about it. Other than the initial purchase price, the cages can seat 4 to 5 people, plus have a trunk to put all your sh.t in. A motorcycle is

| Ancient signal for breakdowns? | 09 Jun 2008 20:15 GMT | 17 |
In the olden days, when German motorcyclists had a breakdown, they used to tie a yellow scarf to the handlebars, signalling passing fellow motorcyclists they needed assistance. Was there something similar in the anglophone world?
