Hi Albrecht, I was just googling some of your posts about charging systems. Very informative, thanks. In one of them (subject was "Gasket") you mentioned a motorcycle repair encyclopedia. Do you remember the title or author?

| Virago charging problem | 31 Aug 2007 18:39 GMT | 17 |
My 1988 Virago has been having problems with the charging system recently. A few weeks ago I noticed that the battery fluid level was very low, which was my fault as it had been sitting there behind the rear cylinder for ~6 months and I forgot it should be checked (oops).

| 81 Virago 750 won't start | 31 Aug 2007 02:08 GMT | 6 |
Recently bought an old Virago on e-bay. In the month I've had it, it always started quickly and easily (usually without choke). I had only ridden it around town 1 - 2 miles at a time; a lot of stop and go all under 40mph.

| Throttle pickup from idle | 30 Aug 2007 19:20 GMT | 8 |
I have a 1996 Honda CBR1000F. I am very happy with it, except for one little annoyance: When I want to add power after having it completely closed, it is very difficult to avoid a jerk just as the throttle opens.

| 1987 Honda CBR600 (tuning?) | 30 Aug 2007 18:39 GMT | 1 |
1987 Honda CBR600 ("Hurricane"), 20k mi. Bike has been running reasonably well (tiny, tiny lo-speed miss) up until the ugly, Ugly Aug. heat wave, during which I didn't ride. Tried to start it about a week ago, it spluttered, idled on choke,

| Drain plug stripped--self-tapping plug? | 29 Aug 2007 23:26 GMT | 53 |
I have a 2006 Yamaha FZ6 and decided to do an oil change myself for the first time. It was a struggle to get that oil filter off, but I finally put a screwdriver through it and succeeded. However, I ended up striping the oil pan with the drain plug. *sigh*

| Honda Rebel CMX250 Trun Signal Flasher where is it located? | 27 Aug 2007 21:42 GMT | 5 |
Both the left and right turn signals on my Rebel stopped working. The bulbs are good. My thoughts are that the next most likely part to fail is the flasher. I have the service manual but it does not show its physical location. I'd rather not tear things apart looking for

| 87 ZL1000 Carb issue?? | 27 Aug 2007 17:03 GMT | 23 |
Greetings all! My friend has an 87 Kawasaki ZL1000. This bike has Mikuni CV carbs on it. Recently, for no apparent reason, the number 2 cylinder began to spew enormous amounts of raw fuel, enough to kill the plug. We pulled the carbs

| How do disk brakes work? | 27 Aug 2007 01:58 GMT | 2 |
Disk brakes. Squeeze the lever, fluid, slave cylinder mashes the pads against the rotor. That part I understand. What I don't understand is what happens when you release the lever.

So I grew up riding BMW shaft drive, boxer engine, built like a rock and handles the same bikes and have until very recently had almost no experience with other bikes. So the other day I traded some old junk for some new junk in the form of a 1973 Cb350. Really it is a nice bike and ...

I have a 2007 Triumph America and this past weekend I took a trip with my girlfriend on the back for the first time. I readjusted (stiffened) the rear springs according to the owner's manual. Afterwards she told me it was just too rough of a ride for her.

| Stupid clutch question | 10 Aug 2007 17:25 GMT | 9 |
AFAIK, every bike I ever rode had a wet clutch except a WWII vintage Harley. A friend tells me that dry clutches are common on bikes. Have any of you ever heard of a 21st century bike with a dry clutch? Michael
