Well, my Ebay purchase is looking up! Got everything working this morning and took her for MOT - passed with flying colours! Mechanic passed verdict that she looked a good'un mechanically and with a bit of TLC she'd be a peach.

Picked up the repainted CB450 bodywork from the sprayer this evening. It looks absolutely, utterly, utterly gorgeous. I didn't go for the original "blue with gold stripe" but for the (also original but somewhat less common) "dark green with gold stripe" instead.
